Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam yesterday said that the anti-liberation forces in various shapes like the IS (Islamic State) have been indulging in anti-state conspiracies to take revenge of their defeat in 1971.
“The killers of 1971 have merged with BNP and they have become only one force. All the Rajakars and Al-Badrs have merged with them. Along with the killers of 1971 BNP was born (came into being) in accordance with the prescription of ISI (Inter services Intelligence of Pakistan). It’s natural to them…no alternative to this can be expected from them,” he said. The minister said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on the “Politics in fulfilment the Nation’s goals and present realities” organised by BB Foundation at the National Press Club at Topkhana Road in the city.
BB Foundation chairman and former president of Chhatra League Bahadur Bepari chaired the discussion, also addressed, among others, by Awami League (AL) organising secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, assistant secretary to AL sub-committee Marufa Akhter Poppy and BB Foundation general secretary Saifur Rahman Tapan. In an oblique reference to BNP-Jamaat combine, Quamrul Islam said, “Many persons came up with proposals for understanding and talks with them. They used to say talks can be held if BNP severs relations with Jamaat. BNP was born from the womb of Jamaat….then why talks should be held with them?”
The senior Awami League leader said, “What sorts of talks would be held with those who killed Bangabandhu, tried to kill Sheikh Hasina in 2004 and those who unleashed fire-terrorism? Political conflict can be resolved politically but there is no political conflict with them. They are killers. They have been proceeding with a killing mission. So, question doesn’t arise for talks with them.”
