The government has taken massive plan to save the country’s young generation from drugs with a view to building a skilled nation, the Education Ministry sources said.
As per the initiative, a lecture against drugs will be delivered in each school, college and madrasa just after starting of the classes.
The speakers will deliver their lectures for at least five minutes everyday.
The Education Ministry is going to implement it from the first day of the next year.
The Education Ministry and the Home Ministry jointly prepared a work-plan in this regard.
According to the plan, a committee comprising officials of the Education Ministry, the Home Ministry, Narcotics Control Department and a teacher of every educational institution will be formed.
The committee will hold two inspiring meetings in the first and last weeks of each month in the educational institutions with the participation of the teachers and the students to create awareness among the students.
An anti-drug meeting will be held participated by the committee members and an anti-drug festival will also be arranged per month.
The members of the committee will hang many billboards, banners and festoons and will distribute leaflets among the students.
Anti-drug cultural activities, essay and debate competitions and other social activities will also be arranged by the committee.
Sources said, the Education Ministry and the Home Ministry jointly held a meeting on March 13 to keep the young generation untouched from the drugs.
The meeting asked the Department of Narcotics Control to make a plan and to prepare a strategy of the project.
The officials of the Department of Narcotics Control sent their proposal to the Home Ministry last month. The Ministry examined the proposal and sent it to the Education Ministry for action.
Director (Secondary) of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Md Abdul Mannan said, “It is appreciable initiative taken by the Ministries. The plan will help curb the drugs from our society. If we can instill the bad impact among the students, I think we will get fruitful result soon.”
“We have been working against the drugs in all the educational institutions all over the country. We directed the teachers to follow our order and the teachers are also working now. The new initiative will definitely encourage the teachers to work more against drugs,” he said.
The Education Ministry officials said, the Ministry asked its concern officials to draft a list for imparting training to the teachers on drugs. It also asked the National Curriculum and Textbook Board to update the information in chapter of drugs in each book.
