Anti-drug Debate Fest begins in city

Inspector General of Police A K M Shahidul Hoque bpm, ppm inaugurated the weeklong Anti-drug Debate Festival at CIRDAP International Conference Room yesterday.
 Debate for Democracy and the Department of Narcotics Control jointly organized this Debate Festival. Director General of Narcotics Control, Khondoker Rakibur Rahman was present as Special Guest and delivered speech on the impact of drug abuse in the society.
 Hassan Ahamed Chowdhury Kiron, Chairperson of Debate for Democracy presided over the inaugural ceremony and moderated the debate session.
In his speech, K M Shahidul Hoque, BPM,PPM Inspector General of Police emphasised on collective efforts against drug addiction and suggested strong social mobilization to save the people from abuse of drugs. He appreciated anti drug debate festival as an effective tool in creating awareness against drug addiction.
Khandoker Rakibur Rahman, Director General, Directorate of Narcotics Control mentioned that enforcement of law is not enough in context of changed cultural and economic situation, rather parental and community role can play significant role to overcome the worse situation,
Hassan Ahamed Chowdhury Kiron, Chairman of Debate for Democracy underscored the need for massive campaign against abuse of drug. He mentioned that most of the drug abusers are young and mostly addicted getting influence from friends. He urged the student to realize impact of narcotics on health and avoid tendency of taking narcotics.
Eight renowned colleges in Dhaka City are taking part in this festival including Viquararunnesa Noon College, St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Dhaka Cant. Girls Public College, Dhaka Commerce College, Siddheswary Girls College, Mohammadpur Preparatory Girls High School & College, and South Point College..
Mr Asaduzzaman Khan, Minister for Home Affairs will attend as Chief Guest in closing ceremony of this festival to be held on 24 January. He will also distribute prizes among the wining team on that day.
