Former city mayor and President of Chittagong City Awami League ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury alleged that an ‘ anti-Chittagong quarter’ has been hatching conspiracies to shift the proposed Sonadia Deep Sea Port and Asian Highway from Chittagong.
Terming the ‘attempt’ a terrible fraud, Mohiuddin Chowdhury alleged that an international Mafia syndicate is masterminding the conspiracies in order to destroy the country’s premier seaport of the country.
Mohiuddin, also president of Chittagong Port Protection Committee, disclosed this at a press conference arranged at his Chashmahill residence in city Monday afternoon.
He said as per pre-election pledges of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, feasibility test to set up Sonadia Deep Sea Port in Moheshkhali was completed at a cost of huge amount of money and a green signal was given to this effect but a certain quarter is abruptly trying to shift the deep sea port to Payranonder from Moheshkhali.
“A safe haven of smuggling would emerge there if the deep sea port is set up in Payrabond and it would endanger the peace and security of not only Bangladesh but also of the whole world”, Mohiuddin feared.
Mohiuddin sounded with deep sigh that like the deep sea port,conspiracies are being hatched to shift the proposed Asian Highway to Sylhet which was planned to connect on Chittagong and Kunming of China.
Chittagong city AL Joint General Secretary (GS) Badiul Alam, City Shramik League GS Mahbubul Hoque Etly, City AL Labour Affairs Secretary Abdul Ahad and deputy office secretary Jaharlal Hazari, among others, were present in the press conference.
