Under the direction of Major General Qazi Sharif Kaykobad, Director General of the Ansar and Village Defense Force, about 3,000 Ansar VDP members under Sylhet Range have been engaged in Boro harvesting.
Boro farmers in the haor region became worried about the labor crisis. In this situation, to overcome the food crisis and recession in the coming days, the field level farmers and boro farmers have taken initiative to cut the paddy and take it home.
Sunamganj District Commandant Enamul Khan coordinated with the district administration in this regard and led the paddy harvesting activities. There are about 4,000 Ansar VDP members and members of the 6 upazilas of Sunamganj district, most of them are low income people. Many of them are small Boro farmers. They will be engaged in harvesting Boro paddy in 33 haors and 2,19,300 hectares of plain land in Sunamganj district and handed it over to the district administration.
According to Ansar-VDP sources, paddy was harvested in the lands of Boro farmers in Sunamganj Sadar, Dirai, Jagannathpur and Bishwambharpur upazilas on the date. With the participation of Ansar-VDP members, the work was supervised by the concerned Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Upazila Agriculture Extension Officer, Upazila Ansar and VDP Officer and the Chairman of the Local Union Parishad.
It may be mentioned that besides Sunamganj district, Ansar-VDP members have been prepared to harvest paddy in 125 upazilas of Sylhet district, 60585 hectares in 8 upazilas of Habiganj district and 53530 hectares of land in 2 upazilas of Moulvibazar district.
