Ansar man killed after service shotgun misfire

A member of the local Ansar and Village Defence Party was killed reportedly by an accidental shot from his service shotgun while he was unloading it in Ramu upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
The deceased was identified as Belal Uddin, son of Abdul Hakim of Natunpara area under Varuakhali union of Cox’s Bazar Sadar upazila.
The incident took place at around 9:30pm on Thursday at the Ramu upazila parishad complex.
Confirming the matter to the media, Ramu Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Pranoy Chakma said although the incident was initially believed to be a case of misfire, it would still be subject to further investigation.
Belal was taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital in critical condition where doctors declared him dead, he added.
It is now being investigated whether the shot actually came from Belal’s shotgun or someone else’s, the UNO further added.
