Services team Bangladesh Ansar won the Walton Refrigerator 13th National Men’s Intermediate and the First Women’s Boxing Championship that concluded at the Muhammad Ali Boxing Stadium here Sunday.
In the men’s intermediate group, Ansars secured four gold and a silver while in the women’s group, they won four gold and a bronze.
Ansar team overall earned 10 medals — eight gold, one silver and one bronze medal — in the four-day meet.
Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan (BKSP) finished runners-up in the intermediate men’s group with two gold medals and a silver.
In the women’s group, Golbaria Jubo Sangha became runners-up securing one gold medal.
Mohammad Azharul Islam (49kg) of BKSP was adjudged best boxer in the intermediate men’s group while captain Shamima Akter (45kg) of Ansar women’s team adjudged best boxer in the women’s group.
Ansar men’s team captain Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, who earned a gold medal in 60kg category of intermediate group, said his target is to do better in future. “But to this, we need to compete in the international events more.”
Ansar women’s team captain Shamima Akter of Jessore, who won a gold medal for her team in 45kg category, said she hopes to win more gold medals in future.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Youth and Sports Ministry Zahid Ahsan Russell distributed prizes among the winners as chief guest.
National Sports Council secretary Shibnath Roy and additional director of meet’s sponsor Walton FM Iqbal Bin Anwar were present as special guests at the closing ceremony.
