UNB, Dhaka :
A court here on Sunday issued warrant of arrest against BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman in a defamation case filed for his derogatory remarks on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Masud Parvez took cognisance of the defamation suit filed by Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Dhaka district unit assistant general secretary Abdul Aziz and issued the arrest warrant.
The case was filed in connection with a speech by Tarique Rahman at a discussion in London on December 15 when he called Sheikh Mujibur Rahman a ‘great Razakar’ and claimed that
Bangabandhu’s family had no contribution to the country’s Liberation War.
Addressing the discussion, Tarique said, “Awami League claims that it’ s a party of War of Independence, but it was Sheikh Mujib who had banned Awami League describing it as a party of thugs. So, if it’s a party of Liberation War, Sheikh Mujib is a great Razakar for obliterating Awami League.”
