UNB, Sirajganj :
A court here on Tuesday issued a warrant for arrest of recently sacked minister Abdul Latif Siddique arrest in a case filed for hurting religious sentiments of Muslims with his derogatory remarks on hajj.
Freedom fighter Ainul Haque, legal secretary of the district unit of Islami Andolon Bangladesh, filed a case with Sirajganj Cognisance Court-6 in the afternoon.
Taking the complaint into contingence, Senior Judicial Magistrate Rubina Parvin passed the order.
At a views-exchange meeting with expatriates from Tangail in New York on September 28, Latif Siddique made disparaging remarks about hajj, one of the main pillars of Islam, and Tablig Jamaat.
He said, “During hajj, too much of manpower is wasted. Over 20 lakh people have gone to Saudi Arabia to perform hajj. They’ve no work, no production and they only cause deduction.”
“Some 20 lakh Tablig Jamaat people get together annually who don’t do any work except halting traffic movement across the country,” he added. Following his remarks, the ruling Awami League-led government sacked Latif Siddique from the cabinet on October 12.
He was also removed from the Awami League presidium and his primary membership in the party suspended.
