Staff Reporter :Another teenage boy was tortured to death allegedly by a local leader of ruling party’s student body at Hazaribagh area in the capital on Monday over the theft of a mobile phone set.The victim was identified as Md Raja, 16, son of Babul Hossain of 46 Ganaktuli Lane of Hazaribagh.The victim’s family claimed that Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL)’s Hazaribagh thana unit president Arzu Miah took Md Raja to his house and beat him to death. Police, meanwhile, detained three people in connection with the murder. Ratna Begum, a paternal aunt of the victim, told reporters at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) that Arzu picked up Raja from his house and took him to his residence in the morning alleging that the teenage boy has stolen his mobile phone set. The BCL leader’s mobile phone set was stolen from his house. Arzu’s house is also located in Hazaribagh’s Gonokuturi Lane. The 16-year-old, however, used to live with his sister at Kamrangirchar.Arzu along with his accomplices reportedly beat Raja mercilessly at his house, leaving the boy injured seriously. The perpetrators dropped the teenage boy to his house after providing him with first aid at a local clinic, Ratna added.Raja’s family members took him to the DMCH as his condition deteriorated. However, doctors at the hospital declared him dead around 5:00 pm. There were marks of torture all over Raja’s body, hospital sources said.Officer-in-Charge of Hazaribagh Police Station Mainul Islam said that the place of occurrence is the home of Arzu. He said police already detained three people for interrogation in this connection. However, their identities could not be known yet.
