Zubair killing: Another teacher of JU testified

Another Jahangirnagar University (JU) teacher testified on Sunday to Dhaka’s Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 in the case lodged in connection with the killing JU student Zubair Ahmed.
JU professor Dr SM Badiar Rahmed of the Department of Bio-Chemistry of the university tested on Sunday and on March 5, the court recorded the depositions of Dr Abdul Mannan Chowdhury, a professor of the Physics Department of the university.
With professor Badiar, Judge ABM Nizamul Haque recorded the depositions of 14 witnesses. The judge fixed March 12 to record the depositions of other witnesses.
On February 23, accused Khandaker Ashiqul Islam Ashiq, Khan Md Rais, Istiaq Mehbub Arup and Mahbub fled away from the dock of the court, after the court had cancelled their bail. Besides, the court issued arrest warrants against fugitives- Rashedul Islam Raju and Zahid Hasan.
Zubair Ahmed, an English Department student of the university, was beaten by some Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists on January 8, 2012 and Zubair succumbed to injuries at the United Hospital of Gulshan in the capital the following day.
The case was filed with Ashulia Police Station in this connection. Police submitted the charge sheet against 13 BCL activists on April 8, 2012.
On September 8 last year, the present Speedy Trial Tribunal framed charges against 13 BCL activists in the case.
The accused are: Nazmul Hossain, Kamruzzaman, Mazharul Islam, Mohammad Mahmudul Hasan, Khandaker Ahiq, Jahid Hasan, Mahbub Akram, Nazmus Sakin, Rashedul Islam, Khan Md Rais, Ishtiaq Mehbub Arup, Shafiqul Alam Setu and Abhinandan Kundu.
