Amid the widespread criticism over the humiliation of a schoolteacher in Narayanganj, another headmaster of a high school was assaulted over the formation of the managing committee at Khandorchara in Kaliganj upazila on Thursday evening.
The victim is Abdul Latif, headmaster of Khandorchara Bahumukhi High School.
Locals and witnesses said Abdul Latif had been at loggerheads with Abdus Sattar alias Sattar Company, one of the founders of the school, over the formation of the new managing committee where Sattar was left out.
Following this, Bachcha Miah, one of the followers of Sattar as well as a member of the committee, filed a case with Lalmonirhat Court challenging the legality of the committee and sought a court order to dissolve it.
However, the court rejected their plea to dissolve the committee.
Later, Bachcha Miah filed a complaint with Dinajpur Education Board over the same issue.
The education board directed the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Kaliganj to look into the issue.
On Thursday, Upazila Academic Supervisor Zakir Hossain came to the school
to investigate the matter on behalf of the UNO where he did not find any involvement of the headmaster with the incident.
As soon as the supervisor left the school premises, Sattar and his followers swooped on Latif and beat him mercilessly, leaving the headmaster injured.
Secondary Education Officer of the upazila Afroza Begum said she had heard about incident and asked the headmaster to take recourse to law against the perpetrators.
On May 13, locals beat Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School in Bandar area of Narayanganj, for allegedly hurting the religious sentiment.
