Emi freed on undertaking: Another quota reform female leader held

Police picked up another female student for her involvement with the quota reform movement from her uncle’s house in Belkuchi upazila of Sirajgang district on Wednesday.
The detained girl has been identified as Lutfun Nahar Luna Sarkar, 21, and Joint Convener of General Students’ Rights Protection Council.
She is a 2nd year student of Sociology Department at Eden Mohila College, Dhaka. She comes from Baoikhola village in Kashiani upazila in Gopalganj district.
Sirajganj Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Tutul Chakraborti said “A joint team of Cyber Crime Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Sirajganj Police in a drive arrested Luna from her uncle’s house at Khidro Chaprar Char village around 5:00am in a case filed under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act with Ramna Police Station.
She has been brought to Dhaka for interrogation, the police official said adding that details of the case cannot be revealed at the moment for the sake of investigation.
Belkuchi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Razzak said that the arrested student had been taken to Dhaka for interrogation about her role in quota reform movement.
She was shown arrested in a case filed under ICT Act, the OC said.
Earlier, Sheikh Tasnim Afroz Emi, a Joint Convener of General Students’ Rights Protection Council and also a masters student of Sociology Department of Dhaka University (DU), was picked up by detectives from in front of Shamsunnahar Hall of the university at 10:00pm on Tuesday over “provocative” Facebook posts, detectives released her later around midnight last night.
She was handed over to the DU authorities after receiving an undertaking from them, said Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Mir Muddasser Hossain, DC of the Detective Branch (DB), Serious Crime unit, said that Tasnim had posted “political status” on Facebook over the quota reform movement and some recent issues, which were “provocative and violent”.
“We detained her for interrogation. We are now checking her Facebook account and will take necessary actions after that,” he said.
