Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said the government has decided to build a second police barrack in the city as the existing Rajarbag Police Lines appeared inadequate as an abode of the main law enforcement agency.
“We have planned to build another police line in the city,” she said while addressing first ever ‘Police Welfare Parade’ at Rajarbag Police Lines after inauguration of the Police Week 2017 adding that a suitable piece of land was being looked for building the barrack. The premier said Dhaka City has been divided into two parts to reach better services to the people and “so we have plan to build another police line in the city”.
Bangladesh Police arranged the ‘Police Welfare Parade’ for the first time coinciding with the annual police week like the Darbar of other armed forces to enable police personnel at the grassroots to have an audience and talk with the country’s top executive. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and Inspector General of Police M Shahidul Haq also spoke at the ceremony, joined also by Home Secretary Kamaluddin Ahmed.
Police personnel from constable to top rank officials attended the meeting.
Additional Police Superintendent (SP) Tanvir Salehin Imam, Senior ASP Tapas Ranjan Ghosh, Inspector Monirul Islam, Sub Inspector Sujan Kunda, Sergeant Khandakar Moshiur Rahman and Constable Khairun Nahar spoke on the occasion highlighting some professional requirements.
Sheikh Hasina said the pace of development mostly depends on smooth law and order for which police is responsible and “we can expedite the development works if police perform better”.
Highlighting the country’s progress in socioeconomic sector during her government the prime minister said “We can do better for which I need your cooperation and sincere service”.
The Prime Minister assured policemen of allocating four sets of uniform in a year to allow them having decent attire at the time of duty. She also assured them of taking steps for separate arrangement in all government hospitals for treatment of police force. Sheikh Hasina said steps would also be taken for necessary training of the police officers at home and abroad.
Inspector General of Police Shahidul Haq appreciated the government support to the police force over the years saying he is very much pleased to be the head of a loyal and disciplined force constantly fighting to root out terrorism. He laid importance on making the police more capable with logistic support and equipment to fight terrorism and militancy. Earlier the prime minister visited the the prime minister inaugurated Police Liberation War Museum, Forensic DNA Laboratory of CID, Cyber Crime Investigation Center, Cyber Training Center and a sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and martyred police members in 1971 named ‘Rajarbagh-71’. She visited different section of the Liberation war Museum and stalls of Police Nari Kalyan Samiti (Punak). She also cut a cake on the occasion of Police Week-2017 and attended a lunch hosted in her honour by Bangladesh Police marking the police week.
