A man was killed and 20 more persons were injured when a passenger bus rammed a microbus near toll plaza at Janjira point in the Padma Bridge area on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Haque, 60, son of Tita Mia from Chagaiya area under Bhairab upazila in Kishoreganj.
With the latest death, four accidents took place and three persons were killed in road accidents in the bridge area in a week after opening the bridge for vehicular movement. Desperate driving is almost responsible for frequent accidents in the bridge area, sources said.
Sheikh Mohammad Mustafizur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Padma Bridge, South Police Station confirmed the matter to the media saying that the accident took place at about 3:00pm on Saturday.
A bus from Kuakata hit the microbus from behind near Janjira toll plaza on the approach road before getting on the main bridge, leaving the man spot dead. They seized the bus while its driver and his assistant managed to flee, said OC Mustafizur Rahman.
As both the vehicles fell on the side of the road, vehicular movement on the bridge continued, he added.
