Another journalist has again been assaulted by doctors. A group of doctors at Sikder Medical College & Hospital in the city on Tuesday confined a journalist of Bengali daily Prothom Alo for hours and assaulted him.Shishir Morol, special correspondent of the daily, was assaulted and confined in a room for about two and a half hours by Dr Shafiul Azam, Chief Cardiologist of the hospital, the daily reports in its online version. The daily also reported that the doctor released their correspondent after receiving his signature in a white paper. According to Shishir, he went to the hospital to enquire about an allegation that Shafiul Azam, being a government doctor, has been doing job in the private hospital, using several designations at a time. Earlier, he talked with the doctor on the issue over telephone. Then the doctor asked him to pay a visit to the hospital in this regard.Shishir said that a group of doctors led by Shafiul Azam beat him severely and confined him inside a room from 8:30 AM to 12:00 noon. “The doctors became agitated when I enquired about the allegation and they at one stage assaulted and confined me. They released me after I had apologised and asked them to spare my life,” he said. The journalist claimed to have photos of signboards bearing several designations of Shafiul Azam as assistant professor, associate professor and professor.Earlier on May 6, the interns of Dhaka Medical College Hospital attacked journalists when they went there to cover clash between some interns and DU students. On April 20 also the intern doctors of Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital assaulted eight journalists and vandalized cameras of TV channels. On April 19, intern doctors assaulted six journalists at Mitford Hospital in the city. They had also vandalized cameras and confined the journalists in a room.
