Ehsanul Haque Jasim :”The ferocious persons not only killed a chef barbarically, but maimed his face and different other organs by acid after killing him to disfigure the entire body. The culprits conducted brutal torture on him frequently for four to five days before ensuring his death.” The tragic incident took place in Sylhet on Friday, two days after the recovery of bodies of four schoolboys in Habiganj. Scarred body of the ill-fated person was found in the Kotalpur haor of Kanaighat upazila five days after he went missing. The locals have been stunned at the gruesome murder. The deceased was identified as Jamal Miah, 40, son of Kala Miah from Tinchoti village under Kanaighat upazila. He was a chef by profession. He was buried in his village graveyard on Saturday after Asr prayers. Some locals saw the Jamal’s scarred and maimed body in the Kotalpur haor, few kilometers away from Jamal’s village, on Friday noon. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital for autopsy. Police arrested two persons in this connection. They are Rahim Uddin from Darzimati village and Kabir Uddin from Jhingabari village. According to locals, Jamal went missing on February 14. The family members informed the matter to the police, suspecting some people of neighbouring villages. Mainul Islam Monu, an uncle of Jamal, told The New Nation that they informed about the suspected persons to the police. But police did not take proper initiative in this regard. “Jamal could be recovered alive if the police could take early initiative. Although Jamal went missing on February 14, the culprits killed him on February 17 or 16. Just after killing, they kept the body in the hoar,” he said. He mentioned some names who were behind the killing and the abduction. They are– Haris, son of Zahir Uddin, Moin and Kotil, son of Noor Ahmed of Miagul village. Jamal had an altercation with Haris and it might be the main cause of the incident, he added. Officer-in-Charge of Kanaighat Police Station Humayun Ahmed said that they received a GD in this regard. He said that murder case has been filed against some 18 people after recovery of the body. “We have already arrested two suspects. We are trying to arrest the other accused,” he said.
