Another boy tortured for theft in Laxmipur: 3 held

Another eight-year boy was tortured on charge of stealing two green coconuts in Ramganj upazila of Laxmipur district on Wednesday.
The victim Yasin, was tied to a pole and brutally beaten, said Tota Miah, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ramganj Police Station.
He is now undergoing treatment at Ramganj Upazila Health Complex, the OC said.
Police have arrested three persons in this connection and they have been identified as Delwar Hossain, Abdus Salam Patwary and Delwar, he said.
Quoting locals, the OC said that Yasin had taken down coconuts from a tree at Patwary’s house in the morning. Patwary nabbed Yasin from his home and he along with some others, including Delwar Hossain tied the boy to a pole of a shop at Masimpur Bangla Bazar of Chandipur union and beat him with sticks.”
Following information, Police rescued Yasin and took him to the hospital and arrested the three persons from the scene, the police official said.
The latest incident comes in the wake of a number of child abuse cases in different parts of the country, triggering public outrage.
Two of the cases generating huge attention including the death in torture of Samiul Alam Rajon in Sylhet and Rakib in Khulna. Tormented, they both died and legal proceedings are underway in each of the cases.
