Another Bangladeshi hajj pilgrim injured in Mina stampede died at a hospital in Jeddah of Saudi Arabia on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Kahir Miah,75, a resident of Kuarpar area of Sylhet city. The deceased’s family sources said Kahir, who had gone to Makkah for performing hajj, was injured in the stampede on September 24.
Later, he was admitted to a hospital in Jeddah where he succumbed to his injures around 5:00pm (BDT) on Monday.
The death toll of Bangladeshi hajj pilgrims from the tragic stampede in Mina was 51 till Monday,
according to Bangladesh Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Golam Moshi. One hundred and thirty more Bangladeshi pilgrims still remain missing, the envoy told BBC Bangla. “Efforts are on to find out the missing Bangladeshis,” he added.
Golam Moshi said officials of his embassy are taking information about the missing people by visiting different hospitals.
The Saudi authorities are also publishing photos of the dead pilgrims in phases at Mujassam near Mina.
The embassy has asked the relatives of the missing Bangladeshi pilgrims to go there to check the photographs.
Saudi Arabia has put the official death toll from the shocking incident on September 24 at 769 though some foreign diplomats claimed the actual number to be a thousand. Over a lakh people from Bangladesh went to Saudi Arabia to perform hajj this year.
