Court Correspondent :
A Dhaka court yesterday (Monday) issued another warrant of arrest against former State Minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui as he did not respond to its summon in a case filed for hurting religious sentiments of the Muslims using derogatory remarks about the holy Hajj.
Magistrate Snigdha Rani Chakraborty of Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court passed the warrant order as the accused failed to appear in the court on the date. The court fixed November 27 fot submission of police report on the execution of the warrant of arrest.
This is the second order of warrant of arrest issued against Latif Siddiqui by a Dhaka court after his recent derogatory remarks about the holy Hajj.
Latif Siddiqui was summoned on October 2 by the same court, taking into cognizance a petition filed by Ulama League’s Senior Vice-Chairman Abu Bakr Siddique.
Following his remarks made on September 28 in New York, the ruling Awami League-led grand alliance government sacked Latif Siddiqu from the cabinet on October 12. He was also removed from the Awami League Presidium, and his primary membership in the party was suspended.
