Staff Reporter Kishoreganj :Yet another allegation has been made against Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) for torturing a young man to death in Bhairab of Kishoreganj district. This time the allegation was made against RAB-14 commander Major Sakib Siddique of Bhairab RAB Camp in Kishoreganj district.Victim Shahinur Alam’s younger brother Mehedi Hasan made the allegation at a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Tuesday. He said ,”We have given Tk 7.20 lakh to Nazrul Islam, a manpower recruiting agent of our neighbouring village to send my elder brother Shahinur Alam to Italy. As Nazrul failed to keep his promise, my elder sister subsequently filed a case with Brahmanbaria Police Station against him to realise the money”.Later, Nazrul filed two false cases against me and my sister with Dhaka Judge Court and Rampur Police Station to harass us so that we cannot create pressure for the realization of the money, he claimed. Nazrul Islam might have used RAB -14 to kill my brother Shahinur Alam, he alleged. He said, “Twelve plain clothed RAB men led by Bhairab RAB Camp-14 commander Major Sakib Siddique arrested my brother Shahinur Alam from village Bogdohor under Nabinagar Police Station in Brahmanbaria district on April 29 last. Blindfolding my brother, they took him to Nabinagar Police Station and kept him in a RAB jeep. He was later taken to Bhairab Camp-14 in the evening.” “After my brother was taken to Bhairab Camp, Major Sakib Siddique mercilessly beat him. Shahinur lost sense following merciless beating. On the following day he was taken to Nabinagar Police Station, where a case was lodged against my brother and several others.”Mehedi Hasan further alleged that as his brother fell sick he was admitted to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital. Later, as his condition deteriorated he was shifted to Comilla Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on May 6.He said there was no case with any police station against his brother Shahinur Alam. “So, we want justice on the basis of fair investigation into the matter,” he said.Relatives of Shahinur were present at the press conference.
