Another accused in Burimari murder remanded for 5 days

Senior Judicial Magistrate Ferdousi Begum of Amli Court-3 on Monday (November 18) remanded Helal Uddin, (32), in custody for five days in a case filed after he with others bat Shahidunnabi Jewel to death in a mass beating at Burimari in Lalmonirhat. Helal Uddin is the son of Mofiz Uddin from Guriatari village in Burimari union of Patgram upazila. He is accused in two cases of killing Jewel and assaulting police.
Police have arrested 34 people in the three cases. Of these, 12 were remanded and questioned. Detective Branch (DB) Officer-in-Charge (OC) Omar Farooq confirmed that four people, including Mulhota Burimari Union Sramik League president Abul Hossain alias Hossain, decorator and mosque clerk Jobed Ali, had given confessional statements.
It may be mentioned that on October 29, Jewel and his accomplice Sultan Rubayat Sumon were beaten and detained at the Union Parishad Bhaban by the locals for insulting religion at the Burmemari Central Bazar Jame Mosque in Patgram Upazila of Lalmonirhat. Later in the night, the UP building was demolished and the locals beat Jewel to death in the presence of the administration and burnt his body to ashes.
