World’s number one all-rounder Shakib al Hasan added another chapter to his glittering career, as he was among the sportspersons to receive National Sports Award on Sunday at Osmani Memorial Hall in the city.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina handed over the National Sports Award on Sunday to 32 sports personalities for their outstanding contributions for the year 2010, 2011 and 2012.
The most significant part to be noticed is that the names of the awardees had been announced in 2013. Shakib is just one of the three cricketers in the history to receive national award while still playing for the national team.
Earlier, former Tigers captain Akram Khan had the honour in 1998 while ace left arm legendary spinner Mohammad Rafique received the similar award in 2006, two years before his international retirement.
However, shooters Asif Hossain Khan (2002) and Sharmin Akter (2006) joined these elite cricketers to receive the national award when they were still representing Bangladesh in international events.
