Staff Reporter :
The government initiated to import about 50, 000 tonnes of wheat to meet domestic demand next year. The state grains buyer has already issued an international tender to import 50,000 tonnes of milling wheat, a senior official said on Tuesday.
The deadline for offers is January 10, with validity up to Jan. 20, and the wheat is to be shipped within 40 days of the signing of the contract.
The tender called for wheat with at least 12.5 percent protein and a minimum test weight of 76 kilos per hectoliter.
The state buyer has recently moved to ensure quality after it faced severe criticism for importing 200,000 tonnes of wheat from Brazil in tenders, some of which was alleged to be below standard.
Later it rejected three shipments involving a total of around 125,000 tonnes of French wheat as the grain failed to match tender specifications.
