At least 20 more people were killed and many injured in separate road accidents in Naogaon, Tangail, Faridpur, Manikganj and Mymensingh districts on Wednesday, police and hospital sources said. On Tuesday, 18 people were killed and 32 injured.
In Tangail, at least 10 people, including four women and two children, were killed and four others injured when a truck rammed into a tempo on the Tangail-Mymensingh Road at Ashura in Madhupur upazila.
The deceased have been identified as Salma Begum, 30, her sons Sadiqul, 10, and Samiul, 8, Rohima Begum, 30, Habibur Rahman, 50, Firoza Begum, 45, her niece Ayesha, 12, her grandson Sajid, 4, driver Abdul Kader, 60, and Asr Ali, 40, from Madhupur upazila, and Hena Akter, 35, from Ghatail upazila.
Madhupur Police Station’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Alamgir Hossain said that the bodies were sent to Madhupur Upazila Health Complex and the injured were undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital.
In Naogaon, four passengers, including a child, were killed after a truck had hit a parked rickshaw on the Naogaon-Rajshahi highway at Baghachara in Naogaon district at about 12:00pm.
The deceased have been identified as Abdus Sattar, 40, from Manda upazila, his daughter, Khusi, 8, Mohammad Sohel, 18, from Sadar upazila and a rickshaw-van puller Saim Uddin, 30, from Mohadevpur upazila. In Manikganj:, two people were killed as a concrete laden truck fell into a ditch, breaking a bailey bridge at Singair upazila. The identity of the deceased could not be known instantly. In Faridpur, Traffic Inspector Saroj Kumar Roy, 56, died after being trapped between two trucks in front of the Peyarpur Primary School at about 10:00am. Faridpur Police Superintendent (SP) confirmed the matter.
In Pirojpur, an assistant of the driver of a bus was killed when the vehicle crushed him on the Pirojpur-Mathbaria Road at South Ikri of Vandaria upazila. The deceased has been identified as Shah Jalal, 28, a resident of Mathbari upazila. Vandaria Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Matiur Rahman confirmed the matter.
In Mymensingh:, a woman was killed on the Gouripor-Bhovanipr Road under Gouripur upazila in istrict on Wednesday morning. The deceased has been identified as Monwara Khatun, 40, police said.
