A Dhaka court yesterday (Monday) granted bail to Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Student Affairs Secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie after he surrendered to it after his return from abroad.
On Sunday, an arrest warrant was issued against Annie and three other BNP leaders rejecting the time petitions filed on their behalf.
Magistrate Tareque Moinul Islam Bhuiyan of Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court granted the bail.
The BNP leader told the court that he could not appear in the court in the case filed with Paltan
Thana as he was on a tour in Bhutan for several days.
After returning from Bhutan on Monday, Annie surrendered to the court and appealed for bail.
A total of 46 BNP leaders, including its Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, were made accused in the case filed with Paltan Police Station for creating anarchy and disturbance by picketing and it was filed in March this year.
