Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq today lauded the foreign policy of Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as it had ensured the principle of neutrality in the then bipolar world.
“In the then bipolar world, the Father of Nation had successfully upheld the principle of neutrality (with his foreign policy),” he said, reports BSS.
The minister made the appreciation while talking to the reporters after attending the opening ceremony of a seminar on Bangabandhu’s philosophy in the 21st century, organised by the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) at its auditorium in the capital as the chief guest.
Mentioning Bangabandhu’s memorable motto that ‘Friendship with all, malice towards none’, Anisul said this motto is suitable to build a better world through ensuring peace, cooperation, development and justice.
“It was his (Bangabandhu’s) visionary foreign policy that saved Bangladesh from the ‘cold war’,” he added.
The minister said Bangabandhu was not only a leader, he was a political philosopher.
Bangabandhu’s ideology and philosophy could not be finished off by assassinating him, he said, adding that his ideal is still vibrant among the people of country.
He wanted to make Bangladesh free from hunger, poverty and corruption, the minister continued.
Professor of Dhaka University International Relations Department Dr Delwar Hossain presided over the seminar while BIISS Director General Major General Mohammad Maksudur Rahman delivered welcome speech.
Senior officials of various ministries and organizations, representatives of foreign embassies, former diplomats, senior military officers, academia, teachers of various public and private universities, students, researchers, representatives of organizations, representatives of international organizations and media personalities participated in the seminar.
