Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq on Saturday said the wastes of sacrificial animals will be removed from his city areas within 48 hours from the day of Eid-ul-Azha.
The mayor came up with the remark while addressing a press briefing at the city’s Gulshan-2.
Some 2,220 regular cleaning workers of the city corporation along with 1005 hired ones will work round the clock in the north part of the capital to hasten the process, Annisul said.Besides, he said, some 200 waste disposal trucks, 22 drum trucks and other vehicles and instruments have been kept ready to carry the leftovers of slaughtered animals to the dumping spots.
The DNCC authorities will also distribute some 2,00,000 pieces of environment-friendly polythene bags among the city dwellers to keep the wastes, the mayor said.
This year, Annisul said, some 648 spots have been fixed in DNCC for slaughtering cattle.
The DNCC authorities will engage 824 imams and 750 butchers at some 196 spots out of total 648 ones on the day of Eid-ul-Azha, Annisul said. Senior DNCC officials, including chief waste management officer Md Abdur Razzak, chief executive officer Md Mezbahul Islam and local ward councilors were also present at the press conference.
