The Department of Surgery and Obstetrics of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) has launched an Animal Blood Bank on Monday.
The blood bank has been established aiming to collect and store fresh blood from the donor animals and to transfuse blood into the sick animals for better management of anemia and protein deficiency.
BAU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Ali Akbar inaugurated the facility as chief guest with Pro-VC Prof Dr Jasimuddin Khan as special guest. Among others Dean of Veterinary faculty Prof Dr Prio Mohan Das, BAU Proctor Prof Atiqur Rahman Khokon, teachers of different faculty was present.
About the blood bank Head of Department of Surgery and Obstetrics Prof Dr Md Mahmudul Alam said, every year many sick animals die especially the neonates die due to lack of animal blood reserve and transfusion of blood and plasma.
The Animal Blood Bank is also prepared to train the veterinary clinicians, field veterinarians, masters and intern students of university and other institutes, Prof Mahmud added.
