Staff Reporter :A man hacked his minor son and three other relatives to death over family dispute in an Adibasi Palli of Vrimpur Taltola village under Panchbibi upazila in Joypurhat district in the early Saturday.The victims were killer’s son Sunny, 6, mother-in-law Sandhya Rani Marandi, 60, sister-in-law Tereja Marandi, 20, and uncle-in-law Michel, 50.Local people caught the killer, Sumon Hebram, 35, inhabitant of Nawana village in the upazila, and handed him to Panchbibi police, said Belayet Hossain, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Joypurhat.”Sumon’s wife Sylvia Hemran, 22, was rescued in a critical condition and admitted to Joypurhat Modern Hospital. She was shifted to the Shaheed Zia Medical College and Hospital in Bogra, the police official said.Quoting locals, the ASP said Sumon got a job in a motor workshop in Dhaka recently. He returned to his in-laws’ house early in the morning and locked in an altercation with his wife Sylvia, blaming her for an extra-marital affair.At one stage of quarrel, Sumon hit Sylvia with sharp weapon, leaving her critically injured. Hearing the hue and cry, other family members rushed in the house and Sumon hacked Sunny, Sandhya, Tereja and Michel indiscriminately when they tried to resist him, leaving them dead on the spot, he said. On information, police recovered the four bodies and sent those to Joypurhat Modern Hospital morgue for autopsy.Sumon made the attack following a conflict with his in-laws over “an extra marital affairs” of his wife, said Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, Officer in-Charge of Panchbibi Police Station.Sumon had been staying at his in-laws house since he got married to Sylvia seven years back, the OC said. But one year back, he came to know about the extra-marital affairs of his wife and informed it to his mother-in-law, Sumon told police adding that his in-laws did not take any action against Sylvia, he said. Police recovered the sharp weapons used for the killing, the police official said. Sumon locked into quarrel with his wife and in-laws over the issue around 4.00am, but his wife’s uncle Suren Hadda turned down the allegation. Suren also filed a case with the police station in this regard.
