Spain’s Pablo Andujar progressed to the last 16 of the Rio Open on Monday with a 7-6, 7-5 victory over former champion Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay.
Andujar won 67% of his service points compared to Cuevas’ 58% and also returned impressively, despite converting just three of 11 break-point attempts.
Cuevas served four double faults as he crashed out of the tournament he won in 2016 after defeating Rafael Nadal in the semifinals.
World No. 74 Andujar will meet Argentina’s Juan Ignacio Londero or compatriot Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the next round of the ATP 500 clay-court event.
