Ancient temple Laowe Jadi needs renovation

Hundred years old ancient temple Laowe Jadi. Jadi has been facing extinction due to lack of care and maintenance .
Its height is about 60 to 70 feet. It is situated at the top of the hill of Ramu upazila in Cox’s Bazar. It is one of the ancient Jadi or pagoda of Buddhism in Bangladesh. Jadi was last renovated in 1992 after being rehabilitated for a long time. Now, the Jadi is at risk of getting collapse. It may collapse at any time if urgent steps do not take under. Major casualties can also happen.
It is seen that the southern side wall of the hill has been collapsed and it moved about 20 from the ground and erosion came too close to the Jadi. Jadi’s North side is also in same condition. If this situation does not taken under urgent measures to prevent the collapse, then it can collapse in this rainy season.
Regarding this, Ramu Buddhist Archaeological Conservation Council President Pragyanand Bhikshu said that, due to the lack of guide wall around the hill, the soil erupted on the north and south side of the hill and reached the bottom of the jadi.
Due to this season’s heavy rain, locals are afraid of hill collapse. As a result, the Jadi may collapse at any time if necessary initiative is not taken soon. In 2012, due to heavy rain the boundary wall of the Jadi got collapsed. After that its been 7 years and still no initiative has been taken to protect the Jadi.
Ramu Lal Ching Managing Committee General Secretary Uthoyenche Rakhine said , there are about 27 Buddhist monasteries, including Jadi’s in different places of Ramu upazila.
Among them, Jadi is one of the most important and ancient monument. But this priceless momument is going to be destroyed at any time. The locals are expecting government to come forward to save this hundred years old Jadi.
