A mammoth 251 opening stand by openers Anamul Haque(172 not out) and Robiul Islam Robi (100) saw Khulna Division ruled the third day as they scored 342 for 4 against Rangpur in their first innings at stumps in the first round of four-day 19th National Cricket League held on Sunday at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna.
Khulna are now only 129 behind Rangpur Division with six first innings wickets in hand.
Both the openers resumed at their overnight score on the third day with Anamul unbeaten on 105 and his partner Robi on 67 runs.
They carried on from their overnight total of 183 for loss to 251 when Robiul Islam Robi was out just after completing his hundred off 220 off balls that contained seven boundaries and a six.
Anamul Haque Bijoy sent early warnings for the national selectors as he remained not out with a dazzling unbeaten 172 studded with 13 eye catching boundaries and two towering sixes. He consumed 275 balls for runs while Mohammad Mithun was too in good form as he slammed a breezy 40 runs off 48 deliveries and added 65 runs for third wicket stand. Nurul Islam was other batsman to be out for 8. Nasir Hossain was the leading Rangpur bowler with two wickets.
Earlier, Rangpur Division resumed their first innings on the second day (Saturday) with overnight score at 325 for 6 and finally dismissed their first innings at 471, rode on Naeem Islam (135) and Dhiman Ghosh’s (105) magnificent tons .
Al Amin Hossain finished 4 for 102 runs while national discard Abdur Razzak bagged three for 126 runs.
