Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu Wednesday stressed the need for quick completion of priority based projects maintaining due quality and warned of taking stern action against the people responsible for delay in implementing those.
He was presiding over an evaluation meeting on the projects taken in the recently ended fiscal year 2013-2014 by corporations and organizations under Industries Ministry, at its conference room.
“Priority projects under Industries Ministry such as Shahjalal Fertilizer Factory, Savar Leather Industry, API Industries Park and BSIC Industrial Park must be completed in time at any cost maintaining due quality,” he said.
He sounded a note of warning saying, “If implementation of the projects is being delayed due to negligence of someone action will be taken against those responsible for it.”
Amu, also an advisory council member of the ruling Awami League said that activities of BSTI has not yet been desirably visible, saying, “Effective measures are needed to this end. Responsibility of the organization will not be completed with only conducting some drives against adulteration.” He directed the BSTI officials to strengthen drives against adulteration and formalin.
The minister also directed the concerned officials to take preparations for taking over Shahjalal Fertilizer Factory from its builder soon after its completion. For this reason, he emphasized on quick recruitment of technical manpower and taking measures of providing them with appropriate trainings.
It is mentionable that Shahjalal Fertilizer Factory is being built with modern technology in Sylhet after long 20 years at a cost of Taka 5,409 crore with probable date for completion of the work by June 2015. Around 90 percent works have already been completed. With functioning of the factory having a capacity of producing 5.80 lakh metric tons of fertilizer per year will meet the maximum demand of the country.
Industries Secretary Mainuddin Abdullah, high officials, Chiefs of different corporations and organizations under the Ministry and concerned project directors were present at the Meeting.
