Amu to attend 6th 3R Forum in Maldives

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu will fly for Maldives tonight to attend a four-day sixth conference of the Regional 3R Forum in Asia and the Pacific, said a press release.
With the assistance of the United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD) and Environment Ministry of Japan Government, the conference will conclude in Male on August 19.
The ministry sources said the issues of industrial pollution, natural and environmental risks due to rapid urbanization in the Aisa and Pacific region, possible ways to overcome the limitations, waste management including reducing industrial waste, recycling and reusing of the wastes would dominate the discussion.
Amu will present a paper in the conference highlighting various steps of the incumbent government to ensure a sustainable and environment-friendly industrialization, the release added.
The industries minister is likely to return to Dhaka on 20th instant.
The Regional 3R Forum in Asia was launched in November 2009, with an objective to provide strategic policy advices to national government authorities in mainstreaming 3Rs (Reduce, Recycle and Reuse) in the overall policy, planning and development.
The Forum seeks to address policies, programs, measures, tools and technologies in the context of achieving resource efficiency, sustainable production and consumption, integrated solid waste management, sound material-cycle, low-carbon and zero waste society.
The Forum also provides a knowledge sharing platform for disseminating and sharing best practices in 3R areas, including new and emerging issues of concern in waste management.
The first session of Regional 3R Forum in Asia was held in Japan on November 2009 while fifth of it was held in Indonesia on February 2014.
