Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu has urged the business people to be more attentive in maintaining the quality of products shunning the mentality of making excessive profits.
“Business people need to come out from the mentality of making excessive profits and become conscious about the quality of their products. The country as well as the society and image of the business people are affected due to a handful of profit-hungry people,” the industries minister said while speaking at a seminar marking World Standard Day on Thursday.
Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institute (BSTI) organized the seminar with its director general Ikramul Haq in the chair.
Senior secretary of the industries ministry Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, senior vice-president of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, director of BSTI Md Rezaul Karim spoke at the seminar held at BSTI’s head-office here.
Amir Hossain Amu said the government has taken steps to set up 100 Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in different parts of the country for foreign entrepreneurs who have been planning to come to Bangladesh for investment.
If local business people do not improve the quality of their products they would not be able to cope with the competition that is expected to be created after foreign investment, he added.
He urged BSTI to carry out their responsibility properly. Business people should follow the standards set by BSTI, Amu said adding the government does not want to force the business people to follow law.
