Amu for forming working team to shift tanneries from Hazaribagh

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu today asked the organizations concerned to form a working team for expediting the shifting process of tanneries from Hazaribagh to Savar.
The working team comprising the Industry, the BSCIC and tannery industries should be formed to complete shifting of tannery factories within the stipulated time, he told a discussion on ‘Development of tannery industry and its relocation’ in a city hotel.
Bangladesh Finished Leather,Leather Goods and Footwear Exporters Association (BFLLGFEA) organized the discussion with its Chairman Engineer Abu Taher in the chair.
Barrister Fazle Noor Taposh MP, Industries Secretary Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah and Chairman of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) Shayam Sundar Sikdar and leaders of the association, among others, addressed the discussion.
“We will take necessary steps to overcome all sorts of complexities regarding the relocation of tannery factories ,” Amu said adding the government is sincerely working to complete construction of all infrastructures at the Tannery Industrial Estate.
The minister urged the owners of tannery factories to extend their overall cooperation to accelerate the shifting work of tanneries from Hazaribagh to Savar.
Referring to the period of 2003 when the project was undertaken involving Taka 175.75 crore with a deadline to complete by 2005, Industry secretary Moinuddin said now the project would be implemented by June 2016 as the project has recently been revised to Taka 1078.71 crore.
Other speakers said relocation of tannery factories would increase the overall export value to billions of dollars as it has immense potentiality to earn huge foreign currency.
