Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Wednesday suggested the Italian entrepreneurs to establish green tannery in the Savar’s Leather Industrial City.
He gave the suggestion while meeting with Italian delegation of the second generation leather entrepreneurs at Industries Ministry in the city and said “Present government is working for building environment friendly green leather industry,” said a press release.
Sponsored by the government, Leather Industrial City including Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) is being established in Savar, he added.
During the meeting they discussed various issues including starting operation the Dhaka Leather Company Limited as a green tannery.
The delegate members expressed their keen interest to invest in the Dhaka Leather Company Limited for making it as environment friendly modern technology based industry.
Italian leather industry entrepreneurs are producing blue leather and other leather products by processing leather in hygienic way, they said, adding that “If Bangladesh can process the leather in the hygienic way and it will be increase export and Value Added Tax (VAT).”
Amu expressed positive comments on the proposal of making the Dhaka Leather Company as green tannery and assured the delegation to take necessary steps in this regard after reviewing.
Among others, Additional Secretaries of the ministry Sushen Chandra Das and Jamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury were present on the occasion.
