Staff Reporter :
The Amnesty International, an international rights organization, has urged the Bangladesh government to take urgent steps to protect the members of the Hindu community, their house-holds and temples against the violent attacks.
It also called on the authorities to ensure access to justice and effective remedies for victims of the recent violent attacks that broke out across the country since October 13 following allegations on social media
that a copy of the Quran, the holy book of Islam, was desecrated at Puja pandal in Cumilla.
Amnesty also asked the authorities to investigate the incidents promptly, thoroughly, impartially and transparently and bring those suspected to be responsible for the violence and vandalism to account though fair trials.
The Amnesty International’s Friedhelm Kuhl made the appeal through a letter sent to the Prime Minister on October 19.
