The body of renowned filmmaker and actor Amjad Hossain was brought back home on Friday evening, seven days after his death.
The mortal remains were flown from Thailand on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight that landed around 7:05pm.
Amjad’s body will be taken to his residence in the city’s Adabar after the first Namaj-e-Janaza at Mohamampur Baitul Amanmosque. It will be kept at the Birdem Hospital mortuary.
The body will be taken to the Central
Shaheed Minar on Saturday for the people to pay their last respects from 11am to 12pm. It will then be taken to ATN Bangla office, Bangladesh Film Development Corporation and Channel I office.
He will be laid to rest in his village home in Jamalpur.
The veteran director breathed his last at Bumrungrad International Hospital in Bangkok on December 14. He was taken there on November 28. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took care of his medical bills.
He was admitted to the intensive care unit of Dhaka’s Impulse Hospital and was on life support after suffering a stroke at his residence on November 18.
President Abdul Hamid and the prime ministermourned the passing away of the prominent director.
Amjad, born on August 14, 1942, had shown an interest in arts and literature at an early age.
Apart from receiving multiple national film awards, he also won many accolades during his career spanning nearly half a century. He received the Ekushey Padak in 1992.
Some of his notable films are – “Golapi Ekhon Train-e” (1978), “Sundori” (1979), “Koshai” (1980), “Jonmo Theke Jolchhi” (1982), “Dui Poysar Alta” (1982), “Bhat Dey” (1984), “Golapi Ekhon Dhakay” (2006), and “Golapi Ekhon Bilatey” (2010).
