The Department of Environment has fined Tk 40,000 to the current chairman of Amirabad Union Parishad of Chattogram for illegal extraction of sand in Lohagara.
Mufidul Alam, Director of Chattogram Environment Directorate, gave this information in a circular last Monday.
However, UP Chairman SM Yunuch claims that the Department of Environment has added his name to the notification by mistake. Although he could not explain this ‘mistake’.
It is known that he was fined Tk 40,000 under Sections 7 and 12 of the Environment Protection Act 1995 (Amended 2010) for illegally extracting sand from the Tongkabati River in Lohagara’s Amirabad area.
