The country’s renowned jeweler ‘Amin Jewellers’ has honored 27 noted veterans in recognition of their significant contributions to their own fields.
Amin Jewellers has distributed the award to mark its golden jubilee at the Hall of Fame of Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the capital on Saturday.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith attended the function as the chief guest. Cultural Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, and former Member of Parliament and Chairman of Amin Jewellers Quazi Sirazul Islam were also present as special guests.
Each of the awardees has received an honorarium of Tk 3 lakh, a medal (made with 2 bhori gold) a crest and an uttorio. They also received warm reception from about two thousand audiences at the event.
The 27 noted veterans, who received awards on the golden jubilee of Amin Jewellers, were: AKM Zakaria (Archaeologist), Professor Anisuzzaman (Educationalist and Intellectual), Ashalata Baidya (Freedom Fighter), AM Harun Ar Rashid (Scientist and Technologist), AK Azad Khan (Doctor), Kakon Bibi (Freedom Fighter), Jamilur Reza Chowdhury (Civil Engineer), Tofail Ahmed (Politician), Toab Khan (Journalist), Dwijen Sharma (Naturalist), Nurjahan Begum (Journalist), Protiva Mutsuddi (Language Soldier), Fazle Hasan Abed (Social Welfare and Development Personality), Mahadev Saha (Poet and Journalist), Murtaza Bashir (Artist), Mustafa Monowar (Artist and Cultural Personality), Jatin Sarker (Thinker and Writer), Barrister Rafiqul Haque (Lawyer), Razzak (Actor), Runa Laila (Singer), Syeeda Khanam (Photo Journalist), Serajul Islam Chowdhury (Educationalist and Intellectual), Sukumar Barua (Rhymester), Sudhin Das (Nazrul Song Singer), Syed Shamsul Haque (Poet, Playwright and Writer), Hasan Azizul Haque (Writer) and Humayun Ahmed (Writer-posthumous).
The preparation of the programme was commenced a year ago and the member of jury board who worked for giving nomination of the awardees were Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, Director General of Bangla Academy Dr Shamsuzzaman Khan and noted writer Professor Syed Monjural Islam, Department of English, Dhaka University.
Speaking as the chief guest, Finance Minister AMA Muhith said, the businessmen usually want to confine themselves in their own business activities whereas Quazi Sirazul Islam has taken step for bringing the country’s noted veterans in the fields of education, health, culture, art and literature under one roof.
Cultural Minister Asaduzzaman Noor said this is a precedential initiative for honoring such number of intellectuals in Bangladesh.
