India’s West Bengal Government announced a lockdown to prevent corona, but in the business interests of the two countries West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has instructed the traders to keep the import-export activities between the two countries. However, import-export trade between the two countries resumed on Sunday morning after a three-day shutdown on the occasion of Eid holiday.
From this morning till this afternoon, 95 trucks of goods have been imported from India and 42 trucks of goods have been exported from Bangladesh to India.
Busyness has increased in the Benapole port area as export-import started. Long lines of imported goods vehicles have been seen on the road. Benapole Land Port Director Abdul Jalil said, Import-export trade has been resumed from Sunday morning after a three-day shutdown on the occasion of Eid holiday.
All field level officials have been instructed to delivered the goods quickly from the port and unload the goods quickly from Indian trucks.
Sajedur Rahman, general secretary of the Benapole C&F Agent Staff Association, said.
Hundreds of cargo trucks have been stranded at the Indian port of Petrapole during the Eid holidays.
Four thousands of users have been working in the port. Necessary goods delivered from the port have started.
According to customs sources, 400 to 500 trucks of various goods are imported from India and 200 to 300 trucks of goods are exported through Benapole port every day.
Eighty percent of the country’s Industrial materials, readymade garments and food items are imported through Benapole port.
Every year, the government earns revenue of Tk 6,000 crore from imported goods from this port.
Benapole Customs House Commissioner Azizur Rahman said, after a three-day shutdown of imports and exports on the occasion of Eid, it has been reopened from this morning.
