Aman paddy harvesting begins in Narsingdi

Harvesting of early variety (Short duration) Aman paddy BRRI Dhan-62, BRRI Dhan-37, and Bina Dhan-7 has began in the district though the same will get full momentum from mid November.
The crop is now becoming ready for harvesting and the growing late variety Aman plants are also in bloom predicting an excellent production of the cash crop, official said here.
Deputy Director, Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Narsingdi Latafat Hossain said so far 5 to 6 percent Aman paddy has already harvested in the district.
He said harvesting of Aman paddy BRRI Dhan-62 began in a simple function with the presence of him at Shokandi union of Monohardi upazila in the district from the last week of October. After threshing it was found that about 3.50 to 4 tonnes of Aman paddy have produced per hectare here.
DAE sources said farmers of the district have cultivated 41,250 hectares of land in the current season against the target of 39,400 hectares land fixed by the department for the district.
The Deputy Director hope that if there is no climate hazard in the district in the current month of November, over 1,00,000 tonnes of Aman rice will be produce in the district.
He said BADC had supplied quality seeds to the farmers at fair prices, different commercial banks including Bangladesh Krishi Bank disbursed easy term of loan to the farmers.
Besides, the necessary measures have been taken to distribute fertilizers, insecticides and other agriculture inputs among the growers. In addition DAE has been providing training among the farmers for adopting modern technologies in paddy cultivation.
