Aman paddy harvest in full swing in Gopalganj

Harvesting of Aman paddy is going on in full swing in five upazilas of Gopalganj district and farmers have achieved bumper production during the current season.
According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources, at least 60 percent of the paddy has already been harvested in the district.
 Some 10,008 hectares of land have been brought under T-Aman cultivation and production target was 24,199 metric tones (MT) this season.
Upazila-wise break up is -Gopalganj Sadar – 2681 hectares , Muksudpur upazila- 4733 hectares , Kasiani upazila- 1040 hectares, Kotalipara Upazila 817 hectares and Tungipara Upazila- 787 hectares .
The farmers have so far completed about 60 percent Aman on an average in all five upazilas in the district .
Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC), Gopalganj sold at least 33,000 kg of high yielding variety of seeds among the farmers in time.
 Besides, BADC sold fertilizers, insecticides and other inputs to the farmers on a first-come first-service basis to facilitate cultivation program. Different Government and commercial banks disbursed necessary loans among the farmers for making the programme a success.
Meanwhile the newly harvested Aman rice has appeared in the local markets pushing down its price by Tk 5 to 6 percent per kg for all varieties and the coarse variety Aman rice is now selling at Tk 35 to 36 per kg.
