Almost everyone around the world will be able to receive Covid-19 vaccine approximately 10 months from now, Ugur Sahin, CEO and co-founder of BioNTech, has said, reports Al Jazeera.com.
German biotech firm BioNTech and Pfzier have been credited with developing the first coronavirus vaccine that has been more than 90 percent effective against Covid-19, giving a glimmer of hope to bring an end to the raging pandemic.
“People should understand the urgent need for patience, especially since the vaccine during the next three months will only be available in limited doses,” Dr Sahin told Al Jazeera in an interview.
Everyone must adhere to social distancing and take measures not to expose themselves and their family members to danger, he warned.
“From next March or April, we may be in a better position. Because more companies such as AstraZeneca and others will come up with vaccines,” he added.
“A number of companies are working to develop a vaccine. I think we will all be able to get more vaccines by the middle of next year,” he said.
The restrictions in place in many countries will be eased by the middle of next year, he said.
“It is imperative that we will be able to solve the problem by the third quarter of 2021, so we have 10 months left,” he pointed out. Dr Ugur said the world now knows that vaccines can be effective. “I think the situation will improve greatly in the summer of 2021, and we may have controlled 80 percent of the cases by September 2021,” he said.
