Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon on Sunday said that Bangladesh’s coronavirus situation might take a serious turn in the beginning of April.
“Bangladesh expatriates have created a background for a large number of deaths by moving freely in the country after their return from abroad,” he said.
“It was a grave mistake to allow them to move freely after coming to Bangladesh,” the mayor said while speaking at an emergency meeting of a committee, which was constituted to contain coronavirus in the DSCC areas, in the conference room of Nagar Bhaban in the afternoon.
After talking with local and foreign experts about the overall coronavirus situation, Sayeed Khokon said, “I got the impression that the country’s situation might be worsened at the beginning of April. So, we must take preparations to work together to face this disastrous situation giving it highest priority.”
The mayor said that he felt the necessity of constituting a powerful committee after reviewing the overall situation to deal with the coronavirus issue in the Dhaka city.
He also opined that a database needed to be developed collecting information about the coronavirus infected persons. Besides, the intelligence agencies could play an effective role keeping them on constant vigilance, he added.
Sayeed Khokon said it has become essential for the hospital directors to sit with the representatives of different agencies to ensure the treatment facilities for ordinary patients at hospitals and take steps so that others are not infected with corona patients.
He also proposed deploying detective agencies for the surveillance of the infected people before they spread the virus.
