Staff Reporter :
Distribution of the government allowances to 2,188 freedom fighters in different parts of the country has been kept suspended since April this year following various allegations against them.
The verification committee, formed to investigate the allegation, recommended cancellation of their certificates, terming them ‘Fake freedom fighter’. They failed to prove them as freedom fighters before the verificatrion committee.
Ministry of Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque has ordered to halt their allowances as well as to delist them from ‘C’ group..
Meanwhile, the affected persons have urged the ministry seeking reconsideration of the committee’s decision. The ministry has set to hold the hearing from the beginning of the next month. Asked about the matter, the Liberation War Minister said, “There were written
allegations against some Gazette-held freedom fighters across the country. They were ‘Fake Freedom Fighters’. The complaints were sent to the concerned upazila to investigate.”
He said, “Those individuals failed to show the papers needed to be freedom fighters before the verification committee. The committee recommended cancellation of their monthly honorarium allowance. The allowance has been kept off accordingly.”
Those who will be able to proof themselves as real freedon fighters, their allowance will be reintroduced. The Ministry will issue notification to those who will not be able to show proof.
