Minister for Roads and Bridge Obaidul Quader MP said govt will provide a big budget for mitigation of waterlogging and renovations of roads in Chittagong . He disclosed it while exchanging views with the journos at Chittagong Press Club on Friday evening . President of CPC Kalim Sarwar and the General Secretary Mohsin Chowdhury were present on the occasion. The minister said prime minister Sheikh Hasina has de cided to sanction a rich budget for Chittagong for resolving the waterlogging in city and road renovations so affected during last incessant rain and flash floods .
He said , LGRD Minister is also directed to take necessary actions in this regard. Prime Minister also asked the city Mayor to submit project budget immediately , he said . He also mentioned about the sanction of budget for Dhaka north and south city corporations.
The minister mentioned that the country experienced heavy downpour and flood this season which exceeds the records of 3 decades. Moreover the quality of road construction not upto the mark in some cases and he blamed the contractors for low quality road construction.
The minister told the journos that govt monitoring team will evaluate the work performances of the contractors and the contractors & concerned engineers wil l be liable for low quality works and they should be punished, he added.
In reply to the questions of the journos, he said there are 96 national highways across the country and the 3-wheelers banned in 3000 kilometers way on 22 highways only to avoid fatal accidents. He said 3-wheelers not banned in regional highways and district level roads . He also claimed that following the prohibition of plying of 3-wheelers in 3000 kilometers way, 90%accidents decreased than earlier.
He also told 3-wheelers will be prohibited in all national highways by next three months.
The minister declines to comment anything on on trial matters and in the meantime law minister already said that the trial procedures in 21 August grenade attack will be completed by this year and govt is very much serious about it as Prime minister herself was the prime target of the August grenade attack.
Among others elderly journslist and FF Nur Mohammad Rafique , former President of CUJ Shahidul Alam, President of TV journslist association Chowdhury Farid, publicity secretary of press club Alamgir Sabuj and Manzoor kader Manzo of ATN Bangla were present on the occasion.
