The allocation for the Liberation War Affairs Ministry in the proposed budget has been increased to Taka 1742.74 crore, which is Taka 599.9743 crore higher than the last year’s allocation.
The ministry’s programmes include preserving the glorious history of great Liberation War and ensuring welfare of the freedom fighters.
In the current tenure the government plans to continue ongoing programmes to identify every battle field, slaughter ground and mass grave that bear memories of the war of liberation and to build mausoleums on those sites. The government will establish museums and libraries at the memorials of liberation war.
The government has raised the freedom fighters’ honorarium to ensure their welfare.
Monthly honorarium of a freedom fighter has been raised to Tk. 5,000 which will take effect from July, 2014.
The government has extended facilities for the children and grandchildren of the freedom fighters. Alongside, initiatives are under way to ensure housing facilities for the landless and insolvent freedom fighters throughout the country.
